Dancing Queen

Enjoyed watching the live broadcast of the filming of SHOWstudio's Edition 24 project for YSL yesterday morning - was interesting to watch all the background work required before the stars appeared - set dressers, cleaners, make-up, hair, continuity, costume, the list's pretty endless.

Was also thrilled to see they used most of my narration. In other scenes, they sometimes took inspiration from a number of treatments, or used just a line or two.

The pic is a still from a 'dancing' scene in the film. Can't wait to see the finished edit which is due out in the Autumn for the launch of the collection. I do admit to some fashion envy though - such gorgeous clothes, sighhhhhhhh.

Fashion moment over. Time to back to the grindstone - got to get something ready for the Red Planet competition and a few other things.

SHOWstudio & Yves Saint Laurent

She's in fashion...... Feeling a bit chuffed today! Heard about an unusual opportunity a while ago on The Script Factory at SHOWstudio :

"A unique chance for SHOWstudio viewers to influence the narrative of a high-end fashion shoot to create a catalogue and film for Yves Saint Laurent’s forthcoming ‘Edition 24’ collection. SHOWstudio is inviting submissions for a twenty-four-scene screenplay that will form the basis of a twenty-four hour, live fashion broadcast, over the night of 15 July, during which Nick Knight and Stefano Pilati will transform your ideas into imagery. The names of those authors selected will be credited in the final film to screen on SHOWstudio and YSL.com!"

Went and had a look (I mean it's NICK KNIGHT, a photographer I really admire!), got inspired by one of the many scene titles, and wrote a quick scene outline, and sent it in. Didn't hear anything, but was sent the link to view the 24 hr shoot broadcast live from the studio. Not what you'd automatically think was going to be great viewing, but the bits I've seen have been rather fascinating. It will be broadcast live until 12 noon on the 16th July so have a look - it's glamorous whilst at the same time resembling a finely honed military machine. Brazilian art rockers, CSS, will also be performing live on the set around 10pm tonight.

I heard today that my idea is being used (and I will get a credit). My little scene will apparently be shot tomorrow (16th). I'm pretending to be blase, but actually I'm excited, as I'll be able to remotely watch as it's filmed. If you want to see a top model acting out some surreal fashion stuff for Yves St. Laurent over the next 16 hours, clicky hereeeeeeeee.

EIFF and The Simpsons

Wowwwwwww, Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced its 2007 programme. I've still to investigate all of it but so far Stephen Frears, Tilda Swinton, Screenwriting masterclasses, Christopher Hampton and more, have been announced! You can check out all the details here.

The Simpsons movie is due out blah blah (and I truly hope it'll be brilliant), but one of the BEST things, is the facility on their movie website to design your own Simpson's-inspired avatar. Here's mine.

And the winner is.....

Not me. I didn't win one of the five places in the Royal Tapes competition... bah. Congrats to those who did, especially to the lucky buggers (a pair of writers) who nabbed 2 of the 5 places. The winners are here.

Kitsch or class.....

Now I can FINALLY upload images easily, I have a feeling more random buys will be getting featured. This is my most recent 'leave the house with a fiver and see what you can find' buy. Still can't make my mind up. I like it though (especially the smudgy orange)... just not sure if that's because it's kitsch or class hmmmmmmm.

Pitches you bitches

Great job on Lucy's blog with an alternative pitch fest of short and feature ideas from all over the world. Check them out here.

I haven't read them all yet, but impressed so far!

Catherine Tate is the Doctor's new assistant

Now I wasn't expecting THAT bit of news. what with all the flurry of activity surrounding Kylie's new part in the forthcoming Doctor Who 'Voyage of the Damned', I was quite astonished when I read that Tate was returning, nevermind as the new assistant for the whole of the next series (with Martha re-appearing about half way through).

I wasn't awfully keen on the Christmas episode that she starred in (pic above), but Russell T Davies knows his stuff so I'll give it a go. You can read the whole BBC shebang here.

buzzards and breasts

On a definite (mini) roll :

have sent 2 pitches to Lucy's pitching extravaganza detailed in the last 2 posts;

entered the 'Royal Tapes' competition with an odd little thing I suddenly thought of a few days before submission date;

sold a couple of those gorgeous vintage dresses I found here, which makes my financial situation this month a tad brighter;

happened across a Supermarket dvd clearout (hands up who doesn't like a bargain!) - 'Whats Eating Gilbert Grape', 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory' (the Depp one), and 'Se7en' for 2 quid each!;

have got over the vicarious thrill of life in Second Life, but have discovered that even as you're touring an art exhibition or standing about looking at the view (and you happen to have breasts), lots of strange men will stop and straight out ask you for a shag (without even saying 'hello' or 'bonjour' as there seem to be a lot of frenchmen about), and in fact, some will even offer money and other inducements ('free clothes honey just click here') - things never change - even when we're eating pills instead of food and wearing tinfoil clothes while we fly to the moon, it'll still be the same;

saw a buzzard up close sitting on a fence post looking magnificent (they have little feather trousers).... didn't think it was quite so magnificent later when I read an article about a jogger getting his scalp lacerated by said bird (see pic above for the gore caused), and for the full story click this. honey ja ja.

The Elizabeth Taylor Man

woo I'm late but on a roll (sort of anyway). Another idea cobbled together for the pitch-off. Read more here.

TITLE : THE ELIZABETH TAYLOR MAN

Feature

GENRE : Black Comedy

PITCH : It’s a hard lesson but we all have to learn it - never judge a book by its cover, even if it happens to be wearing full-length satin and a pair of Cleopatra earrings.

SYNOPSIS : Francis is tired of his form. He’s sick of stuffing his maleness into clothes that don’t fit, and of the cold dark place where his heart used to be. Francis dreams of beginning a new life, but if he’s ever to succeed, then he must have expensive surgery - because Francis wants to be a woman.

Not just any woman though - he wants to be Elizabeth Taylor in her heyday. He wants to be a 100 watt star.

He plans (with the aid of a love-struck Security Guard called Louie) to pilfer the city museum of a few measly treasures to fund his surgery. But, Francis’ journey to turn his fantasy self into reality, leads him into trouble with the criminal underworld, Madame Fifi, blackmail, rouge, and true love that burns like a fiery scar across the heart.

Ultimately he discovers that real life only changes when you alter more than just your appearance.
